MangoBoost Welcomes CMU Professor James Hoe as a Full-time Fellow and Secures Investment from Carnegie Mellon University Investment Office

MangoBoost, a provider of advanced system solutions maximizing AI data center efficiency, proudly welcomes Professor James Hoe, a distinguished Carnegie Mellon University professor of Electric and Computer Engineering, as a full-time Fellow. Along with Professor Hoe’s joining, MangoBoost is pleased to announce an investment from the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) Investment Office. This partnership underscores MangoBoost's commitment to excellence and innovation, leveraging the expertise and resources of Carnegie Mellon University to drive forward its mission.

“I am excited to work on MangoBoost Data Processing Units. The computer applications of today would have been inconceivable to me 40 years ago, but the computer systems we run them on still resemble 1980s PCs. The emergence of Data Processing Units is the tipping point in our thinking to begin to more basically re-architect computer systems to match today’s data-centric, network-driven, power-constrained computing modality,” said Professor James Hoe.

With CMU alumni as co-founders and key technical staff, MangoBoost continues to uphold the tradition of academic excellence and entrepreneurial spirit fostered at Carnegie Mellon University. 5 CMU alumni-Jangwoo Kim (PhD Computer Engineering, 2008), Eriko Nurvitadhi (PhD Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2010), Soowoong Lee (PhD Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2009), Sungchul Han (PhD Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2007)-are part of MangoBoost’s founding executive team, with another CMU alumnus- Rachata Ausavarungnirun (PhD Electrical and Computer Engineering 2017)-recently joining the company as Senior Staff Engineer. Two of professor Hoe’s top graduate students-Simon Yu (PhD Electrical and Computer Engineering 2028) and Will Krska (PhD Electrical and Computer Engineering 2028)-are also joining the MangoBoost team.

"We are thrilled to welcome Professor James Hoe to our team and receive this investment from the Carnegie Mellon University Investment Office," said Jangwoo Kim, CEO and co-founder of MangoBoost. "This partnership not only strengthens our financial position but also brings invaluable expertise and insights from Carnegie Mellon University. As a CMU alum-led company, we are proud to continue our journey with the support of our alma mater."
